Wildlife Help Line

Alabama’s oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation center

For more than 45 years, we have cared for and helped more than 50,000 injured and orphaned birds & mammals.  Annually, we provide medical care for almost 2,000 wild bird patients from more than 100 species. The Alabama Wildlife Center has a dual mission to provide medical and rehabilitative care for Alabama’s injured and orphaned native birds & to educate people in order to heighten awareness and appreciation of Alabama’s native wildlife.

Located inside Oak Mountain State Park, our facility features a permanent resident Bald Eagle and Eurasian Eagle Owl, as well as 12 educational hawks, owls, and vultures for close-up encounters at Treetop Nature Trail—located .3 miles from the center, on a 750-foot elevated boardwalk.  Guests can also observe areas where guests can observe wildlife patients being cared for in our nursery, solarium, and raptor flight cages.

We offer guided tours of our facility and Treetop Nature Trail, as well as offsite educational programs, with options available for all ages. Your group can learn about our role in wildlife conservation while meeting glove-trained raptors. To book a program, visit the Education Bird Program tab above.

If you have a bird-related inquiry, please call 205-663-7930, ext. 1.

You must leave a message to be assisted by a trained wildlife specialist. Specialists are busy caring for animals and monitor this line on an hourly basis from 9 am to 5 pm every day of the year. The only way to talk to a wildlife specialist is to leave a message, and they will return your call as soon as they are able. If the animal does not have obvious injuries, please wait for a return call BEFORE bringing birds to us. Thank you!
