Protect Wildlife Car Tag

Help Injured Wildlife. Make Alabama’s First Wildlife Rescue Tag a Reality.

The Alabama Wildlife Center is thrilled to begin pre-registration for our brand-new specialty license plate: PROTECT WILDLIFE!

As Alabama’s oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation center, we’ve provided lifesaving care to more than 100,000 injured and orphaned animals over the past 45 years. This meaningful tag gives us a powerful new way to fund our mission and reach more wildlife across Alabama—but we need 1,000 supporters to make it happen.

Why This Tag Matters. This license plate is more than just a design—it’s a lifesaving tool for Alabama’s wildlife.

  • 🦅 It’s the first license plate in Alabama dedicated to helping injured and orphaned wildlife. This is a historic moment for animal care and environmental protection in our state.
  • 💸 It creates a permanent source of funding for the Alabama Wildlife Center. Each tag generates $41.25 for our operations—supporting emergency care, food, medicine, and rehab facilities.
  • 🐣 It helps animals that would otherwise have no chance. From baby birds that fall from nests to owls hit by cars, this funding ensures they receive expert care and a chance to return to the wild.
  • 📚 It supports public education and outreach. Your tag also helps fund programs that teach children and adults across Alabama about native species, conservation, and coexistence.
  • 🌱 It promotes conservation and biodiversity. By protecting injured wildlife, we help preserve Alabama’s rich natural ecosystems—for today and for future generations.
  • ❤️ It shows that Alabama cares. Every sign-up is a powerful message that our state values its wildlife and supports education, rehabilitation, and conservation of the natural world.

We Have 1 Year to Reach 1,000 Sign-Ups

To bring the Protect Wildlife plate to life, we need 1,000 people to sign up before May 1, 2026. If we reach that goal, the plate goes into production and becomes available to all Alabama residents.

Signing up now shows your support—it doesn’t mean you have to change your current tag today.
There are two ways to help:

  • 💙 Pay the $50 now to help cover your plate and support our mission even more.
Your contribution not only secures your spot—it allows more funds to go to current patients
  • 🙌 Want to help but can’t pay right now?
No problem. The Alabama Wildlife Center will cover your $50 fee for the first year. If we reach 1,000 sign-ups, your spot converts into a free plate voucher!

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

Be one of the first 1,000 people to pre-commit to the AWC’s Protect Wildlife Tag, and we will cover your first year’s fee!

If you prefer to offer extra support to the AWC, you can choose to pay the initial fee yourself instead of using the complimentary voucher.

After the first year, renewal costs $50 annually (plus additional fees), with $41.25 of that amount being tax-deductible as a donation to the AWC.

What happens if we don’t reach the goal?

If we don’t reach 1,000 sign-ups by May 1st, 2026, the license plate won’t go into production, and all fees will be refunded. If you signed up under the sponsored option, there’s no cost or obligation to you. If you choose to pay the $50 upfront, we’ll refund your payment or give you the option to convert it into a donation to support our ongoing wildlife work.

When will the tag be available?

The state of Alabama requires 1,000 pre-commitments before production on the plate begins. Once this requirement is met the state will begin distributing the free vouchers and instructions on how to obtain the new license plate to those who applied in advance.

Once the plate is in production, anyone can request the plate at local licensing offices.
