Volunteer with AWC

One-of-a-kind experiences await you!

The Alabama Wildlife Center operates almost entirely through voluntary efforts.

Work with compassionate and dedicated like-minded people to keep our mission thriving. Come help make a difference for the lives of Alabama’s native wild birds.

Attending the Volunteer Orientation is required if you’re interested in volunteering. You’ll learn about our mission and history, volunteer opportunities, and ways to support AWC’s work. You’ll meet some of the AWC staff and volunteers, have an opportunity to ask questions, and enjoy a brief tour of our facility.

** Must be 18 years or older to volunteer (or 16 years old with a parent/guardian) **

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

  • Rehabilitation Clinic

Volunteer at our clinic and play a vital role in providing care to injured, sick, or orphaned wild birds. As you volunteer, you will gain hands-on experience working directly with a variety of Alabama’s bird species, each requiring unique care and attention.

  • Treetop & Education

Volunteer at Treetop Nature Trail Boardwalk by providing care for our birds of prey that have found permanent homes here. Once comfortable working with large raptors, volunteers may have the opportunity to assist our Education Team working with our glove-trained educational ambassadors.

  • Maintenance

Handy with tools? Painting? Gardening? Renovations? Volunteer with us to help keep our facility running smoothly, and in pristine condition.

  • Transportation*

Relay injured, sick, or orphaned birds to and from AWC. Transport volunteers are on-call as needed (and as available).

* Experience is required
