Why is it Alabama Wildlife Center and not Oak Mountain Wildlife Center?

While we are located within Oak Mountain State Park, the AWC operates independently and is not part of the state park system. However, we have been supporting each other since 1987.

Does Alabama Wildlife Center take Songbirds?

Yes!

The species that are not accepted for rehabilitation:

  • House Sparrows
  • Pigeons
  • Starlings

Yes!

  • Hawks
  • Falcons/Kites
  • Owls

The species that are not accepted for rehabilitation:

  • Eagles

  • Vultures

Does Alabama Wildlife Center take Waterfowl or Shorebirds?

Yes! However, these are accepted on a case to case basis.

The species that are accepted for rehabilitation:

  • Gulls
  • Herons/Cranes
  • Pelicans
  • Shorebirds (ex: Plover, Sandpiper)

The species that are not accepted for rehabilitation:

  • Ducks
  • Geese

No.
