WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE RELEASE OF THE WOOD STORK!!! This Wood Stork was admitted to AWC after Hurricane Harvey dropped this poor kiddo out of the sky here in central Alabama. After much rehab, TLC, lots of visitors coming to check in on his progress during his stay, and waiting for the perfect time during migration he was finally released back into the wild safely with hundreds of other Wood Storks to welcome him! Many thanks to all who helped care for him and facilitated his release and secured a safe release site.

All of what we do is for the moments such as this. Good luck friend!

About The Wildlife Center

Our Mission
The Alabama Wildlife Center is Alabama’s oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation facility, caring annually for almost 2,000 wild bird patients from more than 100 species. AWC is a nonprofit organization with a dual mission:
  • to provide medical and rehabilitative care for Alabama’s injured and orphaned native birds in order to permit their return to the wild, and
  • to educate people in order to heighten awareness and appreciation of Alabama’s native wildlife.
